My apartment

T he first thing is the notice on the door-"La Casa de las Mantas"/"The House of Blankets."There are fluffy rugs(some mohair, others wool) on the arms and backs of the sofa and two armchairs.Near the Areca palms in front of the long window are piles of more throws. There are still more fluffy blankets in the cupboard. Then,on the wall,is a framed poster "Mohair"given me free by the International Mohair Association. It should cost $30.There are smaller pictures of blanket-draped lounges too.(The rest of the walls are covered with modern art,Art Deco and Art Nouveau and pics of jazz musicians).Underneath the pictures and Art Deco lamps are 12 of my 13 bookcases. In the large bedroom, on the double bed is a big pink acrylic underblanket, covered by a large orange, soft synthetic fibre blanket, topped by red and orange fluffy mohair blankets, fluffy blue and mauve wool blankets , red fluffy mohair shawls and fluffy mohair pillows in white. The middle bedroom already has 11 fluffy blankets in mohair, wool and fleecy merino wool pile+ fluffy pillows in merino. My bedroom-the smallest-is deluged in fluffy blankets and pillows. On the rare occasions that I've had couples for dinner, the menfolk, with Spanish machismo worthy of Hemingway, have most assiduously avoided the fluffy blankets in the lounge while the girls ,in general, gleefully feel and cuddle them, hug them to their cheeks and bury their face in them, exclaiming,"¡Me ENCANTAN las mantas lanudas!"("I LOVE fluffy blankets!")Of course,air-conditioning is indispensable for most of the year.

A lifelong love of fluffy blankets

(The reader is advised to have a warm, soft, fluffy blanket at hand for continuous feeling and cuddling as she reads this.)

Blankets!Blankets!Blankets! The very word evokes the intense fascination and delight induced by the tactile-and even visual-sensuality of fluffy blankets. For many women and girls the warm, woolly softness of such soft, feminine coverlets, wraps and garments as fluffy blankets, shawls and sweaters against their soft, delicate skin is a source of sensuous pleasure.

In my own case,my love of blankets began almost with life itself and will persist as long as I live.Indeed,my earliest memories are of the soft feel of blankets during infancy.Early childhood involved as many contacts with them as possible-as,for example, playing with cot blankets on the dolls' bed with the little girl nextdoor.A keenly pleasurable recollection remains of the downy softness of a blanket as it brushed my face when purchased in a department store by my parents. As soon as I was old enough to travel independently,I would haunt the bedding department of all the big stores and furtively stroke and pat their blankets open on display.

As an adult,my greatest moment was when I bought my very first blanket ! I was living in Paris at the time and I bought a luxurious, pink, fluffy mohair blanket at Le Bazaar de l'Hôtel de Ville.I was delighted to see the enjoyment female customers took in touching the many different blankets and the obvious pleasure in stroking and feeling their fluffy, woolly nap of the pretty little black salesgirl.I later bought a sumptuous, orange Solemio wool blanket at a shop on the Avenue Saint Sébastopol.

Here in Spain I've collected a ridiculous number-being a blanketoholic-in mohair,wool, acrylic,etc.

Appreciation

I'm so glad I found this site ! It was through a google alert for blankets . What makes EP so special for me is that it is run by friendly , helpful , real people - as I discovered this morning - rather than infuriating robots , which constantly claim I'm not me and won't let me in , as on several other sites .

I really LOVE fluffy blankets and hope to meet lady aficionadas here to exchange entries and make friends .  I have a huge collectation - in mohair , wool , acrylic ,etc . I'm wrapped in one as a shawl and another as a lap rug as I type this . I live at the seaside in Spain , which manufactures wonderful blankets in at least twenty towns and cities .
